چکیده

Abstract This paper studies the simultaneous effects of relocation production (as part globalization) and institutions on intra- inter-country wage inequality. Firstly, empirical evidence shows that labor unions act at decreasing inequality, but this shrinking effect tends to be mitigated by globalization. Theoretically, we study conditions under which is verified. Unskilled labor-intensive relocations together with (de)unionization processes force contributed increasing path intra-country inequality observed in some leading countries. However, most recently, skilled may help decrease countries (e.g., US), increase it follower China).

Innovation, Firms and Wage Inequality∗

This paper uses matched employee-employer data from the UK that we augment with information on R&D expenditures, to analyze the relationship between innovativeness and average wage income across firms. We first show that more R&D intensive firms pay higher wages on average. Our second finding is that the premium to working in more R&D intensive firms seems to be higher for low-skilled workers t...

Global Supply Chains and Wage Inequality

A salient feature of globalization in recent decades is the emergence of “global supply chains” in which different countries specialize in different stages of a sequential production process. In Arnaud Costinot, Jonathan Vogel and Su Wang (2011), CVW hereafter, we have developed a simple theory of trade with sequential production to shed light on how global supply chains affect the interdepende...

Wage Inequality, Minimum Wage Effects and Spillovers

This paper investigates possible spillover effects of the UK minimum wage. The halt in the growth in inequality in the lower half of the wage distribution (as measured by the 50:10 percentile ratio) since the mid 1990s, in contrast to the continued inequality growth in the upper half of the distribution, suggests the possibility of a minimum wage effect and spillover effects on wages above the ...
